On April 21st, I had the privilege to celebrate Earth Day, plus Canada’s 150th birthday with 7 and 8 graders. Students from St. David Catholic Elementary school and Queenston Drive public school in Hamilton, Ontario.
The event was held at the city’s East Gate Square Shopping Mall. East Gate Square collaborated with Battlefield House Museum Park, to host the event which saw over 150 students in attendance.
On celebrating Earth Day, the students were taught how to take care of the earth we live in. Teaching young kids to care about the planet not only preserves the planet but to also protects it.
We only have one home which is our earth. Remember there’s no turning back once we have destroyed our natural resources and polluted the earth.
Students were taught the three R’s for reducing, reuse and recycle.
Here’s is what to do to preserve the earth:
1. Not littering
2. Taking recyclable materials to a recycling centre
3. Reducing fuel emissions by walking whenever possible
4. Reusing and re-purposing rather than using disposable items
On celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday, students participated in a recycled material art contest.
Through art, the students had to express what being Canadian meant to them. Duration of the contest was 30- 45 minutes. The three best creations that expressed what it means to be a Canadian were selected by a panel of judges from the community.
First price (winner of contest)
I was amazed by all the awesome creations the students came up with. Even though only three students won prizes, to me, all the students won by participating and learning how to take care of the environment.
I had a great time and was thankful to have been invited.

Lovely photos. You are very chic. I love your shoes and your top. Kisses 🙂
As the earth takes care of us, we must take care of it. We’ve had a lot of emphasis on reduce reuse and recycle in celebration this week too. In my opinion, everyday should be earth day. Great event and you of course sparkled!
