Tis the season of giving.

I don’t know why this statement is only so popular in the month of December, but I feel giving should be all year round.

Not only In December.

Talking about giving, last Monday, December 12, at 5 pm I had the privilege of attending the official launch of the “Lock In Your Love” campaign hosted at the Vaughn Mills in collaboration with the Sick Kids Foundation. Even though it was a last minute invitation to attend, I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to be part of this wonderful cause.

It was a fun filled environment with yummy bites and memorable performances by a cappella group called “Countermeasure.”

What is the love “Lock In Your Love” campaign?

It is a campaign to raise funds for Sick Kids by purchasing a padlock and locking it on the “Lock Love wall.”

From now till December 24, shoppers can stop at the Sports Court (at Entry 4A) area of the Vaughn Mills mall to purchase a Padlock. You can either buy 1 for $15 or 2 for $25.

Best & Friend Tag/chain sets are also available for $18. Decorate the lock with a message or simply write your name before adding it to the love lock wall. A hundred percent of the proceeds from the love padlocks will be donated to Sick Kids Foundation. And the best part? Shoppers get to keep the keys or key to their lock plus a charm. Charms available are Dream, Friendship, Hero, and Love.

I locked in my love for sick kids, and I got to keep my key and a hero charm. I choose hero because sick kids go through a lot to overcome an illness or disability. They are so extraordinary, and the strength they exude makes them my superhero.

In the perfect world, kids would not be sick, but alas we don’t live the perfect world, so whatever small way you can help during this time of the year and throughout the year will help in putting a smile on a kids face.

Help Vaughan Mills reach their fundraising goal of $150,000. Remember that you don’t need a big wallet to have a big heart!
